March for Meals
March is designated as National Meals on Wheels Month. Show your support by volunteering to deliver meals, donating to our March for Meals campaign, or by encouraging a senior to try our program. Our agency depends on the help we receive from our community. Without you we would not be able to meet our mission of ending senior hunger in Cabarrus County.
March For Meals is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on a local level. Senior nutrition programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
The campaign takes place in the month of March because it was during this month that the law was enacted that included senior meal programs in the Older Americans Act.
In 2015, the March For Meals campaign celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the inclusion of Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older Americans Act (OAA). The OAA is the primary piece of federal legislation that authorizes and supports vital nutrition services, both congregate and Meals On Wheels, to Americans age 60 and older.
