Since 2007, Kimberly Strong has served as the Executive Director of Cabarrus Meals on Wheels (CMOW), an organization committed to nourishing and supporting the elderly and homebound. During her tenure at CMOW, she has become an accomplished professional with a fervent dedication to public service and community welfare.
Her visionary leadership has brought about innovative approaches to enhance the well-being of those in need, including moving the organization to a 10,000 square foot facility in 2020 that features a full commercial kitchen so they can prepare the healthiest meals possible for their clients.
Under her tenure, the organization has been able to expand its client volume from 200 to over 550 per day. Today, CMOW serves hot meals 5 days a week on 31 routes with the assistance of dozens of volunteers. They also provide frozen meals for weekends and even have birthday and pet food programs to enhance their quality of life.
Strong’s journey of service extends beyond her current positions shaping policies and initiatives that positively impact the elderly population. She has been a board member and served in multiple leadership roles for Meals on Wheels North Carolina, where she champions statewide efforts to combat food insecurity and isolation. She is currently serving her second term as president.
She also serves as a board member for Healthy Cabarrus and the Cabarrus Wellness Coalition, as an advisory council member for Meals on Wheels American and as an Advisory Board member for Cabarrus Social Determinants of Health. She is also a task force member of the Institute of Medicine and NC Division of Aging.
Strong has been recognized both locally and at the state level for her leadership contributions including being honored as a Kannapolis Cannon Ballers Hometown Hero in 2021. In 2022, she received the North Carolina Association on Aging’s (NCAOA’s) Rock Star Award, which honors a Chief Executive/Administrative Officer for the quality of leadership and organizational management they provide to their organization and to their aging network. She has served on the NCAOA’s board since 2020.
She is also a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Cabarrus and served as the club’s president in 2017-2018 and was recognized as Rotarian of the Year in 2019-2020. She currently serves as treasurer for their foundation arm, Cabarrus Rotary Charitable Works (CRCW).
Originally from Rochester, NY, Kimberly holds an MBA Degree with a concentration in Public Administration. She has over 30 years of experience as executive director of nonprofit organizations. She and her husband James live in Concord, NC and have an adult son, Andrew. In her spare time, she loves to travel the world.
