Cabarrus Meals on Wheels subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights below, which was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits.

The Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

• To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  
  
• To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  
  
• To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
  
  
• To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  
  
• To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  
  
• To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  
  
• To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  
  
• To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  
  
• To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  
  
• To feel free to ask questions when donating and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

It is the policy of Cabarrus Meals on Wheels that services will be provided to all individuals without discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender, veteran status, ancestry, HIV status or any other characteristic protected by law.

General statement on privacy

We acquire a variety of information on recipients, donors, volunteers, and employees. The information we acquire varies with the situation.

Except as noted in these policies, we do not share information about donors, recipients or other persons with other organizations. We do not sell or otherwise share mailing lists of donors or recipients with any outside organizations at any time for any purpose.

We make every effort not to publicly identify individuals as recipients of our service. Except as noted below, we do not publish or make available the names of our recipients. We may, however, publish the name and image of a recipient if the recipient has approved the use of her or his image in support of this work.

We will share information with others as required to pursue our own mission. Examples: Medical histories and other data are shared with physicians who prescribe diets for our recipients. Recipient information is kept on file to fulfill reporting requirements. A donor’s information is shared with credit card processors to process donations.

The Cabarrus Meals on Wheels site may from time to time deposit such cookies in your computer. We may use information collected by our Internet service provider to track aggregate use of our site. But we do not make use of any information on, for example, what pages of our site are viewed by any visitor.

Prospective recipients, their loved ones or caregivers use our website to provide us with contact information and other information about prospective recipients. This information moves to us via e-mail. Those who wish a more secure transmission may print out a form from the website, fill out the form and then mail, fax or hand deliver the form to us at the address listed on the form.

There are numerous opportunities offered on our website to click here to, for example, let us know via e-mail that you wish to volunteer. We list on our website the names of donors. We have established opt-out procedures both on the website and in fund-raising materials to allow donors to decline to be listed. We honor donor requests that they be removed from such lists if they find their names listed. In the case of persons with identical names, we will attempt to resolve the situation to the satisfaction of all parties.

We may from time to time establish links to other websites for convenience of our readers. Following those links will lead to sites that are not covered by these privacy policies. We do not take responsibility for the contents or privacy practices of any website other than our own.

Fundraising

From time to time we contact people to encourage their support of this work. Most of our fundraising efforts are directed at people who have already expressed an interest in Cabarrus Meals on Wheels. But we also contact other people listed in purchased lists or in public records. These contacts are generally by postal mail but may be by telephonic or electronic means.

We make every effort to honor individual requests that they not be contacted for fund-raising purposes. We attempt to block those names from future fund-raising contacts. When we err, it is often because the individual’s name reappears on a purchased list. In those cases, we ask recipients to give the material to someone who might be interested in supporting this work.

From time to time we may be required by law or legal process to disclose your personal information. We may also disclose information about you if we believe that disclosure is necessary for the public interest.
